Have you ever wondered why no one is reading your blog? Have you been blogging for a while and want to increase the traffic to your site but don’t know how? In this blog post, we will discuss ELEVEN reasons why people aren’t reading your blog. We’ll also provide some tips on how to increase blog traffic! Some of these ideas may seem obvious, but it never hurts to brush up on the basics.
I have been blogging for over seven years now, and I have made all the mistakes that I am discussing today at one point in my blogging journey. I have also worked with many students in my courses and private coaching clients who have made the same mistakes, so I feel confident in knowing what works and what doesn’t when building a profitable blogging business.
Let’s jump into the reasons why people aren’t reading your blog.
You are writing about too many things. If your blog is all over the place with different posts on various topics, people will have a hard time finding relevant content. Many entrepreneurs are multi-passionate, but when it comes to creating a PROFITABLE blogging BUSINESS, you have to niche down to stand out.
I always advise bloggers that they need to niche down, focus on one specific topic and become the go-to expert in that area. This is how you begin to increase blog traffic. But there are always those who still want to create lifestyle blogs or blogs that focus on two or three unrelated topics, which are highly unlikely to work in 2021.
Yes, there are a lot of successful lifestyle blogs out there. But the majority of them that you are seeing either started these lifestyle blogs quite a few years ago when blogging wasn’t as competitive, or they started very niches, grew a following, and then slowly expanded to more topics.
When someone lands on your site, they should know immediately what you do and how you can help them. You have about 2-3 seconds to grab their attention, and if you confuse, you lose. They will not stick around, which leads to the 2nd reason why you may be saying no one is reading my blog.
So how are you deciding what to blog about each week?
If you are writing about what you want to write about instead of focusing on what your audience needs and wants, you will not have many readers or make money with your blog down the line.
Have you done the market research to ensure that your audience is actually looking for the content you are creating? Do you know your reader’s main pain point, and are you helping them get closer to solving it through your content?
If you answered no to these questions, then it’s time to do some more market research on your topic and get clearer on who you are speaking to and what they want help with.
If your blog is niched down and you are focused on the struggles of your ideal reader, no one may be reading your blog simply because they do not know it exists. This is a common problem when you are first starting out, especially because it is often thought that you can just publish a blog post, which will be found on its own.
But in reality, you absolutely need to be promoting your blog post after you publish it because even if you optimize for SEO which will be getting to in a minute, it will likely take a few months before it starts showing up in search results and will start getting found organically.

Now social media is just one way to promote your posts, but you need to ensure that you are using the right social media platforms. My two favorite ways to drive traffic to my blog are via Pinterest and YouTube.
Both of these social media platforms also search engines, which means that if you use the right keywords, your content will continue to work for you over time as people search for information on your specific blog topic.
YouTube is also especially great for personalizing your brand and building a quicker know, like, and trust and relationship with your audience.
If no one is finding your blog posts several months after you post them, it might be because you are not using the right keywords that people are searching for, or you’re using ones that are too competitive. In a nutshell, search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of optimizing your online content so that a search engine is more likely to show it as a top result for searches of a particular keyword.
You want to make sure that you are writing about topics and targeting specific keywords that people are actually searching for. This starts with keyword research to see what particular words people use when searching for information within your niche.
However, the free WordPress plugin Yoast SEO is a great tool to help you along the way to improve and optimize your SEO.
If you are sitting down and writing about whatever comes to your mind related to your niche that day, then this could be the main reason no one is visiting your blog. It’s a typical new blogger mistake to write about what they want within their niche.
This is fine if you have a hobby blog, but if you are trying to grow a profitable blogging business, you need a content strategy. For example, you need to consider what is your ideal reader searching for? What questions are they asking? And what keywords are they using?

There are a lot of distractions online, and if you don’t have an enticing title that sparks curiosity and draws someone in, it is unlikely they will click on your blog post.

If your content is fantastic and the headline is killing it, and people are finding it – The reason people may not be sticking around to read your blog posts is that they aren’t scannable.
People don’t typically read blog posts word for word; they scan them. This means that you need to create content that’s easy to scan. You can make your content scannable by breaking it up with:
No one wants to follow someone who posts consistently for three weeks and then disappears for two months, then posts a couple of times, and then takes a break.
If you want to grow a blogging BUSINESS, then you need to treat it like a business. When you set a schedule and commit to it, consistent blogging leads to a snowball effect of more viewers, more email subscribers, more sales, more testimonials, more people who want to work with you. That momentum is what really grows your blogging business.
When you send an email to your list and include a link to your newest blog post, podcast, video, etc., a percentage of people will click on the link and go check it out. That means that with a press of the send button, you can instantly get traffic to your site.
